Basket, Handled

Description: 

Open and close plain twining, rightward work direction, S-twist. Close twined on bottom, open twined on sides. Hazel stick warp, spruce root weft. Base: 4x4 cross, two rows over four, three rows over pairs, then singles. Warp additions added as brushes (see interior base). Three rows of three-strand twining, and two rows below rim. One row of crossed warps. Three rows of black and white checks in mud-dyed cedar bark and white bear grass overlay. At least five sticks of mud-dyed hazel, with some sticks possibly colored with commercial dyes (faded purple). Horizontal braided rim, spiral wrapped handle.
