Description: 

Circular wrapped, small berry basket with dog motif around rim. Made by Jennie Michelle, also known as Tsin-is-tum, and collected by Mrs. Isaac Lee Patterson in 1896. Three decorative bands of cream, gold, and dark brown. Basket is twined down to the right, start is a twined bundle of wool yarn, with three strands at the up-set. Warps are tule, reed, or rush, weft is in wool, grass, and dyed grass. Rim is a braid with cut warps. The collecting journal of Mrs. Isaac Lee Patterson reads: "Clatsop Orgn. Berry cup/ When on a visit to Clatsop/ July 1896/ These were all bought about the first July when on a visit to Clatsop. We went with Mr. and Mrs. Bancroft. No. 20 was made by Old Mrs Michell an ancient squaw over if not the last of the Clatsop Tribe. Tsin-is-tum? Of No. 20 was probably from the Oregon Grape root." Height 4 inches, diameter 5 inches.
