Description: 

Plain twining, S-twist, with single face overlay and bands of three-strand twining. Doubled warps are a mix of split spruce root with a few hazel sticks, some split. Weft is spruce root. Diamond checkered pattern in single face overlay in white bear grass and brown cedar bark and possibly some maple bark. Six rows of three-strand twining (two at base, four at turn-up). The four rows at turn-up are decorative:one strand of spruce root overlaid with brown cedar bark, one strand overlaid with white bear grass, and one strand mud-dyed black spruce root. Wrapped rim: band of open crossed warps folded to side, and wrapped with beargrass, red ledger ink-dyed root, and black dyed root. Spruce root has darkened with time. Two small wrapped handles. Same region as 1-9798.

Central and South Oregon Coast style, possibly made at the Coquille border/south of Coos Bay, or at Siletz Reservation after relocation, indicated by combination of cedar bark overlay (north of Coos Bay and Willamette Valley) and hazel sticks (south of Coos Bay).
