Description: 

Open twined, z-twist, spruce root clam basket. Style is known for the south slough of Coos Bay. Design consists of six bands of mud dyed root, each three courses wide, with triangles in white bear grass, with one row of 3-strand twine right at base and cross-warp just below rim. Start is a single wrapped bundle with an add-on for every warp, but not divided right away. Rim is wrapped with spruce root and bundled over. Base is convex, but originally was "egg-shaped", or concave. Recieved by the museum from Mrs. Phyllis Harrington Wetherbee in 1938, original accession file reads "Collected not less than 35 years ago by Mrs. L. J. Simpson, great granddaughter of Simpson Hudson's bay factor". Height 5 inches, Width 9.5 inches, Diameter at base 4.75 inches.
